INCiPiT reports the publication in the Italian Journal of Pediatrics of the results of the Italian multicenter RESPIAMO study, based on prospective data and conducted within the network’s research initiatives.

The project assessed the clinical and economic impact of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) lower respiratory tract infections in hospitalized children, with a particular focus on the costs borne by families during hospitalization.

The findings show that the impact of RSV extends beyond the clinical dimension, including a significant economic and organizational burden on caregivers, associated, among other factors, with loss of working days and additional expenses related to the management of hospitalization.

These results confirm the role of RSV as one of the leading causes of hospitalization in the pediatric population and contribute to a better understanding of the overall burden of the disease, supporting the need for preventive strategies and an integrated approach to patient management.

This publication represents a further outcome of the research activities coordinated by INCiPiT, aimed at generating evidence to improve pediatric care and support decision-making processes in healthcare.
